Electrical Panel Upgrade in Rancho Cordova, CA - C-10 Licensed Electrician | Lic. #1099728
Flickering lights when the AC kicks on, a panel with a tripped breaker that will not reset, or a quote from a contractor who says your current service will not support the addition you’re planning – these are the calls we get most from Rancho Cordova. A lot of the housing stock near Folsom Blvd and Zinfandel went up in the 1960s and 70s with 60 or 100-amp panels that were fine for the appliance load of that era and are not fine for a home running central air, an EV charger, and a kitchen full of modern appliances.

Installation of camera with transformer.
Not picture but installation of fan with heater and light in bathroom.
Having a carport/storage shed(16'X24') I needed to have the power line raised from pole to house(County Code).
They were prompt on the day of work. They noticed somethings that needed to be brought up to code. They explained what needed to be done, the way they were going to do it and the cost.
I noticed the pictures are not in order. SMUD disconnecting the power line, the electrician installing the raiser, SMUD connecting the power line to utility box.
What was to be expected was the wait for SMUD, the county and SMUD. In this kind of work you are on their schedule and not the other way around.
The electricians did their work on a timely basis.
I continue to call them for an electrical work and ethernet connection.
County inspector after passing inspection on footing and forms suggested that I have a ground rebar installed.
I contacted OldTown Electric Inc. who I had previously made arrangements to run a power line along with two cables for security cameras an Ethernet line to the storage shed part of the structure.
They were prompt, professional and courteous.

Signs Your Rancho Cordova Home Needs a Panel Upgrade
Most homeowners do not call about the panel itself – they call about a symptom.
Breakers Trip Often or Will Not Reset
If a breaker trips every time you run two appliances at once, your panel is likely undersized for your current load, not just having a bad day. This is common in homes that still have their original 60 or 100-amp service.
You’re Adding an EV Charger, Hot Tub, or Addition
New 240-volt loads are usually what finally push an aging panel past its limit. We size the upgrade to cover what you’re adding now plus reasonable headroom for later.
Your Panel Still Has Fuses or a Federal Pacific Brand
Older Rancho Cordova homes occasionally still have fuse boxes or Federal Pacific panels, both considered fire risk concerns by today’s standards. If you have either, we recommend a full replacement rather than a patch.
Insurance or a Home Sale Flagged the Panel
Some insurers and home inspectors flag panels over a certain age automatically. We provide documentation of the completed upgrade and permit for your records. Call if you’re working against a closing date.

Why Rancho Cordova Homeowners Call Old Town
- We coordinate with SMUD directly. A panel upgrade requires a temporary service disconnect – we schedule that with SMUD so you’re without power for the shortest window possible.
- Permit handled start to finish. The City of Rancho Cordova requires inspection on panel work, and we manage that process so it doesn’t fall on you.
- Same-day completion on most jobs. Standard 100 to 200-amp upgrades are typically done in one visit.
- 10+ years, family-owned, no subcontractors. The electrician who quotes the job is the one doing it.
- Satisfaction guarantee. If something needs adjustment after the inspection, we come back at no extra charge.
Panel Upgrades Throughout the Rancho Cordova Area
We also handle panel upgrades in Mather, Anatolia, Sunridge, and the Folsom Blvd corridor, plus neighboring Folsom and Fair Oaks. See our Rancho Cordova electrician page for the full list of services we offer in the area.
Let’s Look at Your Panel
A free on-site estimate tells you exactly what you need – no guesswork, no pressure to upgrade more than necessary.
A standard 100 to 200-amp panel upgrade typically runs $2,800-$3,800, including the permit through the City of Rancho Cordova. Homes that need grounding work, a meter base replacement, or SMUD service coordination can run higher. We give you an exact number after a free on-site look. Call (916) 307-0990.
Yes. The City of Rancho Cordova requires a permit and inspection for electrical panel replacements. Old Town Electric pulls the permit, schedules the inspection, and handles the paperwork as part of the job.
Most 100 to 200-amp upgrades are completed in a single day, with a brief SMUD-coordinated power outage during the swap. Jobs requiring a meter base upgrade or significant rewiring can take longer.
For most modern households, yes. 60-amp service struggles to handle central air, an electric range, and any 240-volt addition simultaneously. We see this most often in the older tract homes near Folsom Blvd and see it resolved with a straightforward upgrade to 200-amp.
If we size the upgrade with future load in mind, yes - this is one of the most common reasons Rancho Cordova homeowners upgrade in the first place. Mention it during your estimate so we plan the breaker space accordingly. (916) 307-0990 | Request a Free Estimate
