Licensed electrical panel upgrade contractor in Rocklin, CA

A house in Stanford Ranch or Whitney Oaks built during Rocklin’s growth years usually shipped with a 100-amp or 125-amp panel, sized for a smaller home with fewer appliances running at once. Add central air, an EV charger, and a kitchen with a few more circuits than the builder planned for, and that same panel starts tripping breakers or refusing to keep up. Some of it is age. Some of it is just a panel that was never built for the way the house is used today.

Old Town Electric did a fabulous job running power 400 feet from the service to our barn, installing a subpanel, 30 overhead lights in our covered arena and barn, light switches and plugs throughout, and all the conduit. They were customer service oriented, professional, respectful, thorough, and the price was just right. Old Town Electric will be the first electricians I call in the future!! Well done! Tom Taylor

It’s been about a month now since we had OldTown install Gemstone Lights on the front of the house. I wanted to wait a bit to give an honest review and we could not be happier with their communication, quality of install and the Gemstone light product. I would highly recommend them for permanent lighting in the future. We plan to use them for our next projects. Thank you Old Town Electric!!!

We found them to be very professional they understood what we wanted to accomplish they provided useful information and they completed the job within a reasonable time frame. We would highly recommend them.

    Installation of camera with transformer.

Not picture but installation of fan with heater and light in bathroom.

Having a carport/storage shed(16'X24') I needed to have the power line raised from pole to house(County Code).

They were prompt on the day of work. They noticed somethings that needed to be brought up to code. They explained what needed to be done, the way they were going to do it and the cost.

I noticed the pictures are not in order. SMUD disconnecting the power line, the electrician installing the raiser, SMUD connecting the power line to utility box.

What was to be expected was the wait for SMUD, the county and SMUD. In this kind of work you are on their schedule and not the other way around.

The electricians did their work on a timely basis.

I continue to call them for an electrical work and ethernet connection.

In the process of having a carport and storage shed with power build in backyard.

County inspector after passing inspection on footing and forms suggested that I have a ground rebar installed.

I contacted OldTown Electric Inc. who I had previously made arrangements to run a power line along with two cables for security cameras an Ethernet line to the storage shed part of the structure.

They were prompt, professional and courteous.

Old Town Electric pulls the permit through the City of Rocklin Building Division, schedules the PG&E disconnect and reconnect around your day, and handles the final inspection so the paperwork matches the work. You don’t have to call PG&E yourself or figure out which form the city wants.

What a Rocklin Panel Upgrade Actually Involves

Every panel job starts the same way here: we look at what your house is actually running, not just what the panel is rated for on paper.

    Full 200-Amp Panel Replacement

This is the most common call we get from Rocklin, a full swap of an old 100-amp or 125-amp panel for a 200-amp service that can carry central air, an EV charger, and a full kitchen without tripping. We size the new panel to your actual electrical load, not a generic number, and pull the City of Rocklin permit before any wire gets touched. See our panel upgrade and repair page for how we scope a job before quoting it.

Panel Upgrades Ahead of an EV Charger or New AC Unit

A lot of Rocklin panel calls start with someone trying to install a Level 2 EV charger or replace an aging AC unit, only to find the existing panel has no room left. We check available capacity first and tell you honestly whether a full panel swap is needed or whether a smaller fix gets you there. Ask us for a free load assessment before you buy equipment that won’t fit your current service.

Subpanel Installation for Garages, Shops, and Additions

Rocklin’s larger lots in neighborhoods like Whitney Ranch and Clover Valley Woods often mean a detached garage, a workshop, or an ADU that needs its own circuits. A subpanel keeps that load off the main panel and gives you dedicated breakers for tools, chargers, or a future build-out, all pulled under its own permit.

Retroactive Permits for Older, Unpermitted Panel Work

Homes in the older sections of Rocklin near downtown sometimes have a subpanel or garage circuit that was added years ago without a permit. That surfaces during a home sale or an insurance inspection more often than people expect. We can bring that work up to current code and get it properly permitted with the city, closing the gap before it becomes a problem at closing.

Get Your Free Panel Upgrade Estimate in Rocklin

What Working With Us on a Rocklin Panel Job Looks Like

We pull the City of Rocklin permit ourselves and schedule the required final inspection, so you’re not the one tracking down paperwork.

PG&E coordination happens on our end too. We arrange the disconnect before the old panel comes out and the reconnect once the new one passes inspection, and we plan around it so your power is down for as little time as possible.

Every panel upgrade comes with a written estimate before we start, and that number doesn’t move once the scope is set.

Old Town has been doing this work across the Sacramento area for over ten years, and it’s still a family-run crew, not a call center dispatching whoever’s closest.

If a panel fails outright, breakers won’t reset or you smell something burning, we run 24/7 emergency service and won’t leave a Rocklin home without power overnight.

    Panel Work Across Rocklin’s Neighborhoods

We work panel jobs across both Rocklin ZIP codes, 95677 and 95765, from the master-planned streets of Whitney Ranch, Whitney Oaks, Stanford Ranch, and Sunset Whitney to the older lots near downtown Rocklin and Clover Valley Woods. For general electrical work beyond panels, our Rocklin electrician page covers the full range of services we run in the city.

    Ready When You Are

A flickering breaker or a panel that can’t take one more circuit doesn’t have to turn into a bigger project than it needs to be. Reach out, tell us what’s going on, and we’ll walk you through what a fix actually looks like before you commit to anything.

    (916) 307-0990 | Request Your Free Estimate

Most 200-amp panel upgrades in Rocklin run in the $2,500 to $4,500 range, including the City of Rocklin permit. The exact number depends on your current panel size, how much rewiring is involved, and whether a service line upgrade from PG&E is needed. We give free, written estimates before any work starts, call (916) 307-0990.

Yes. The City of Rocklin Building Division requires a permit for any electrical panel upgrade or replacement, along with a final inspection once the work is done. Old Town Electric handles the application, the Electric Load Worksheet, and the inspection scheduling as part of the job.

No, we handle that. Rocklin is PG&E territory, and the city's process requires coordinating a disconnect before the old panel comes out and a reconnect once the new one is installed and inspected. We schedule both sides of that with PG&E so you don't have to.

Most single-family upgrades are done in one day, from disconnect to reconnect. Jobs that also need a service line upgrade, a meter relocation, or significant rewiring can run two to three days. We'll tell you which one your house is before we start.

Yes. This comes up often in Rocklin's older neighborhoods, usually a garage or shop subpanel added without a permit years ago. We can inspect the existing work, bring it up to current code where needed, and pull a retroactive permit with the city so it's documented and passes inspection. Call (916) 307-0990 or request an estimate.
