Old Town Electric did a fabulous job running power 400 feet from the service to our barn, installing a subpanel, 30 overhead lights in our covered arena and barn, light switches and plugs throughout, and all the conduit. They were customer service oriented, professional, respectful, thorough, and the price was just right. Old Town Electric will be the first electricians I call in the future!! Well done! Tom Taylor

It’s been about a month now since we had OldTown install Gemstone Lights on the front of the house. I wanted to wait a bit to give an honest review and we could not be happier with their communication, quality of install and the Gemstone light product. I would highly recommend them for permanent lighting in the future. We plan to use them for our next projects. Thank you Old Town Electric!!!

We found them to be very professional they understood what we wanted to accomplish they provided useful information and they completed the job within a reasonable time frame. We would highly recommend them.

    Installation of camera with transformer.

Not picture but installation of fan with heater and light in bathroom.

Having a carport/storage shed(16'X24') I needed to have the power line raised from pole to house(County Code).

They were prompt on the day of work. They noticed somethings that needed to be brought up to code. They explained what needed to be done, the way they were going to do it and the cost.

I noticed the pictures are not in order. SMUD disconnecting the power line, the electrician installing the raiser, SMUD connecting the power line to utility box.

What was to be expected was the wait for SMUD, the county and SMUD. In this kind of work you are on their schedule and not the other way around.

The electricians did their work on a timely basis.

I continue to call them for an electrical work and ethernet connection.

In the process of having a carport and storage shed with power build in backyard.

County inspector after passing inspection on footing and forms suggested that I have a ground rebar installed.

I contacted OldTown Electric Inc. who I had previously made arrangements to run a power line along with two cables for security cameras an Ethernet line to the storage shed part of the structure.

They were prompt, professional and courteous.

What we get called out for here

A breaker that will not stay set is telling you something. Sometimes it is a failing breaker and a twenty minute fix, and sometimes it is a shared neutral, a damaged run behind a wall, or a panel that ran out of capacity two appliances ago. We have spent more than ten years in Sacramento-area houses and shops working out which one it is. Old Town Electric is a C-10 licensed contractor, Lic. #1099728, with 226+ verified reviews averaging 4.9 stars.

West Sacramento sits on the far side of two lines that matter to this trade. Power comes from PG&E rather than SMUD, and permits come from the city rather than the county. Contractors who only work the Sacramento County side tend to learn that on your job, at your expense.

    • C-10 Licensed Electrical Contractor, Lic. #1099728 | Verify at cslb.ca.gov
    • Serving 95605 and 95691 | Permits Through the West Sacramento Building Division
    • PG&E Territory | Meter Release and Service Drop Coordination Handled

    Electrical repair and troubleshooting

Breakers that trip and reset, outlets that went dead, lights that sag when the AC starts, half a house with no power. We meter it and find the actual fault instead of swapping parts until something changes.

    Main panel upgrades

A 100-amp panel or an old fuse box is what stands between most of these homes and a heat pump, an induction range, or a car charger. We handle the permit and the PG&E side as part of the job.

    Commercial and industrial electrical

West Sacramento carries more warehouse, port, and light-industrial square footage than most cities we cover, and a building like that cannot lose power at 10am. Shutdowns go evenings or weekends when daytime is not an option. Tell us the constraint at (916) 307-0990 and we will quote around it.

    EV charger installation

Most garages here were never wired for 240 volts, so the first question is whether your panel has room before anything gets mounted. There is $50 off Tesla Wall Charger installation right now.

    Rewiring and dedicated circuits

Older Broderick and Bryte kitchens routinely need a dedicated circuit before a modern appliance will run without nuisance trips. We also replace cloth-wrapped wiring when it turns up mid-remodel.

    Outlets, switches, and GFCI protection

Two-prong receptacles and missing GFCI coverage in kitchens, baths, and garages are among the most common things flagged at resale in this city. Usually a short visit.

    Remodels, additions, and ADUs

Kitchen, bath, garage conversion, or a new unit out back. We rough in the wiring, work to your contractor’s schedule, and get it through city inspection the first time.

Lighting, ceiling fans, and smoke detectors

Recessed and under-cabinet lighting, outdoor and landscape fixtures, ceiling fans, and hardwired smoke and CO detectors. Delta breezes are worth something in July, and a properly balanced fan makes them go further.

    Permanent holiday lighting

Jellyfish and Gemstone track systems tuck into the eave and stay there year round, so nobody is on a ladder in December. Popular in Southport and the newer Bridge District builds.

Estimates are free, and we will happily tell you the fix is smaller than you feared. Call (916) 307-0990 or request a free estimate.

Permits and PG&E on this side of the county line

Incorporated West Sacramento addresses permit through the City of West Sacramento Building Division at 1110 West Capitol Avenue, filed on the city’s online portal. Unincorporated Yolo County parcels go to the county instead. Sending the application to the wrong desk costs about a week, and it is the single most common way a job here slips.

The utility splits the same way. SMUD’s territory stops at the Sacramento County line, so everything in 95605 and 95691 is PG&E. On a service upgrade that means a meter release and, depending on the drop, a PG&E crew visit, scheduled on PG&E’s calendar rather than ours. We make that call, file the permit, and meet the inspector. Most of what we do is residential electrical work, though the commercial side keeps us just as busy.

    What happens when you call

    1. You describe what the house or building is doing. A lot of the time we can narrow it down on the phone before anyone drives out.
    2. We come look and hand you a written price. Free, and no pressure to book on the spot.
    3. If it needs a permit, we file it and meet the inspector, including the awkward cases where unpermitted work from a previous owner surfaces mid-job in an older house.
    4. We do the work at the quoted price, clean up, and follow up to make sure it held.

    Neighborhoods we cover

We work across 95605 and 95691: Broderick, Bryte, the Washington District, Southport, River Walk, and the Bridge District. Nearby we also serve NatomasDavis, and Woodland. The full list is on our service area page.

Still just describing it as a weird noise? Call anyway.

Half the people who ring us cannot name the problem, only what the house is doing. That is enough to start with. Tell us what you are seeing and we will come out, look for free, and put a real number in writing.

West Sacramento electrical questions we get asked

The city. Incorporated West Sacramento addresses permit through the City of West Sacramento Building Division at 1110 West Capitol Avenue, filed on the city's online portal, while unincorporated Yolo County parcels go to the county. Panel upgrades, service changes, new circuits, and remodel wiring all need one. We file it and meet the inspector.

PG&E. SMUD's territory stops at the Sacramento County line, so 95605 and 95691 are PG&E. On a service upgrade the meter release and any service drop work gets coordinated with PG&E, on PG&E's schedule. We make that call and sequence the work around it.

It splits roughly in two. Small jobs, a failed breaker, a dead outlet, a fixture swap, are a short visit and priced accordingly. Larger work like a panel upgrade or a rewire generally runs in the $3,500 to $8,000 range with the city permit included. Every estimate is free and written, so call (916) 307-0990 rather than budgeting off a number you found online.

Regularly. Houses from the 1930s through the 1950s in those neighborhoods still turn up with fuse panels, 60-amp service, and cloth-wrapped wiring in the walls. Many insurers now refuse to write a policy on a fuse box, and most of these homes need 200-amp service anyway the moment air conditioning or an EV charger goes in.

Yes, and for a lot of West Sacramento buildings that is the only way it works. Shutdowns, panel swaps, and lighting retrofits can be scheduled evenings or weekends. Tell us the window you have and we will quote the job against it.

Estimates are free. For a repair where the cause is not obvious yet, we will tell you on the phone how we bill diagnostic time before we come out, so nothing on the invoice is a surprise. Call or text (916) 307-0990, or request a free estimate.
