Old town electric was fantastic! I needed a new circuit box and from start to finish their service was great. They responded promptly to my needs sending someone out the same day to look at the problem and give me a quote within hours.
They took care of all permits and inspections and kept me updated. The day of the replacement a whole crew showed up and replaced everything, answered all my questions, worked with SMUD, and before leaving checked every plug inside and outside the house and labeled inside circuit box.
I highly recommend this wonderful company!
Also they always answer the phone and keep you posted what will happen and when.

OldTown Electric did a great job replacing my old power panel. The wiring is so clean on the new panel and the labels are a plus. The replacement took less than 8 hours. They also patched the stucco and the stucco patch matches my current stucco. I highly recommend them for electrical work.
Old Town Electric is super responsive, very customer service oriented, and extremely thorough with their work. In a word, they are impeccable.

I have used Old Town Electric for a number of projects at my house in Newport, Ranging from updating my main power feed to the house from the street (Thereby removing a safety hazard), adding power to the end of my pier for my boat lift and lighting, installing a mobile generator outlet outside of my house, providing power to my Shed, and most recently to square away a faulty pool pump timer. In each and every case, they were extremely professional and punctual and did a complete and thorough job. I give them my highest recommendation.

Old Town Electric did a fabulous job running power 400 feet from the service to our barn, installing a subpanel, 30 overhead lights in our covered arena and barn, light switches and plugs throughout, and all the conduit. They were customer service oriented, professional, respectful, thorough, and the price was just right. Old Town Electric will be the first electricians I call in the future!! Well done! Tom Taylor

It’s been about a month now since we had OldTown install Gemstone Lights on the front of the house. I wanted to wait a bit to give an honest review and we could not be happier with their communication, quality of install and the Gemstone light product. I would highly recommend them for permanent lighting in the future. We plan to use them for our next projects. Thank you Old Town Electric!!!

We found them to be very professional they understood what we wanted to accomplish they provided useful information and they completed the job within a reasonable time frame. We would highly recommend them.

    Installation of camera with transformer.

Not picture but installation of fan with heater and light in bathroom.

Having a carport/storage shed(16'X24') I needed to have the power line raised from pole to house(County Code).

They were prompt on the day of work. They noticed somethings that needed to be brought up to code. They explained what needed to be done, the way they were going to do it and the cost.

I noticed the pictures are not in order. SMUD disconnecting the power line, the electrician installing the raiser, SMUD connecting the power line to utility box.

What was to be expected was the wait for SMUD, the county and SMUD. In this kind of work you are on their schedule and not the other way around.

The electricians did their work on a timely basis.

I continue to call them for an electrical work and ethernet connection.

In the process of having a carport and storage shed with power build in backyard.

County inspector after passing inspection on footing and forms suggested that I have a ground rebar installed.

I contacted OldTown Electric Inc. who I had previously made arrangements to run a power line along with two cables for security cameras an Ethernet line to the storage shed part of the structure.

They were prompt, professional and courteous.

Home Level 2 charging across the Sacramento metro

Tripped breakers when the dryer and the charger overlap. A garage outlet that gets warm. A 100-amp main from the 1960s-1980s with no spare slots. That is usually where Sacramento EV installs start – not with a catalog charger photo.

Old Town Electric diagnoses panel capacity first, then scopes a Level 2 circuit, hardwired charger, or NEMA 14-50 only when the load calc clears. We pull City of Sacramento or Sacramento County permits, coordinate SMUD when the service changes, and leave you with labeled breakers. CSLB #1099728. Call or text (916) 307-0990.

Level 2 home charging that fits the panel you have

Most Sacramento daily drivers want overnight full charges. Level 2 on a 240V dedicated circuit is the usual answer. We size the breaker and wire to the charger rating, mount the unit, and set any app limits so the circuit is not asked to do more than the panel can give.

NEMA 14-50 makes sense when you want a plug-in EVSE or shared use with an RV. Hardwired Level 2 is cleaner when the charger stays put. Tesla Wall Connector, Wallbox, ChargePoint, and other listed units are fair game once the circuit is correct – we do not force a brand to close a ticket.

Send a clear photo of the main panel label and breaker layout to (916) 307-0990 for a faster written estimate.

Panel path before the wall connector

A feeder and charger on a maxed 100-amp service is how you buy nuisance trips. We run the load calc. If the service cannot take the continuous EV load, the honest next step is a main upgrade or a correctly fed subpanel for a detached garage – not a hope-and-pray breaker swap.

Metro panel work lives on our Sacramento-area panel upgrade and repair page. Elk Grove panel jobs: electrical panel upgrade in Elk Grove.

SMUD Charge@Home and the rebate paperwork

SMUD’s Charge@Home program offers residential incentives that can stack toward a qualifying Level 2 charger and, when rules allow, circuit installation through SMUD’s published paths. Amounts and product lists change – we check current SMUD guidance on the estimate instead of promising a fixed rebate number in marketing copy.

What we do on every SMUD-meter job: confirm the meter is SMUD, note whether a main or meter-base change will need utility scheduling, and help you gather the install docs SMUD asks for. We do not invent eligibility. You still apply as the customer of record on the SMUD account.

City vs County permits on EV circuits

A new 240V EV circuit needs a permit in the City of Sacramento and in unincorporated Sacramento County. The address picks the portal. We pull it, schedule inspection, and do not ask you to handle it later. Skipping the permit is how resale inspections and insurance claims get ugly.

Edge cities follow their own building department and sometimes a different utility (Roseville Electric, Folsom, and others). We name that office before work starts.

Detached garages, shops, and ADU feeds

Charger in a detached garage? Expect a feeder, a local disconnect when required, and a subpanel or dedicated circuit that is not an extension cord through the yard. We scope trench vs overhead, electrode details, and working clearance on site.

Attached garages are usually simpler – still a dedicated circuit, still a permit, still a load calc on the main.

EV charger installs in nearby cities

This page is the metro parent. Live city pages we already run:

If your city is not listed yet, call the metro line and we still scope the job from Sacramento.

What the install day looks like

We confirm the panel path, pull the permit, run conduit or cable, land the breaker, mount the charger or outlet, label the directory, and meet inspection. A clean Level 2 on an open panel is often a half-day. Panel upgrades, trenches, or finished-wall chases take longer – we say so up front.

Commercial multi-port lots are a separate scope with site plans and utility coordination. Call if you need more than one residential wall unit.

    Our Recent Projects

Most residential Level 2 jobs land in a few hundred to a couple thousand dollars for circuit, permit, and labor when the panel already has capacity. A main upgrade or long feeder for a detached garage moves the number higher. We quote flat after photos or a site visit - call (916) 307-0990.

Yes for a new dedicated 240V circuit in the City of Sacramento and in unincorporated Sacramento County. We pull the permit and meet inspection. Your address decides City vs County. Edge cities use their own building department.

SMUD Charge@Home offers residential incentives toward qualifying Level 2 equipment and, when program rules allow, circuit installation. Product lists and amounts change. We confirm your meter is SMUD, install to code, and help you gather the paperwork SMUD asks for. You apply as the customer of record.

Sometimes yes, often no. Continuous EV loads eat spare ampacity fast on older Sacramento 100-amp services. We run a load calculation before we sell a wall connector. If the service is short, the clean path is a panel upgrade or a correctly fed garage subpanel - not a double-tapped breaker.

Open-panel Level 2 work is often a few hours to a half day after the permit is in hand. Finished walls, trenches, subpanels, or a main upgrade add time. We give a schedule on the written estimate.
